£10,000 Community Fund Award

Alford Valley Community Railway (AVCR) is absolutely delighted with the Award of £10,000 from National Lottery Community Fund. This award will significantly contribute to the refurbishment of the station building which is our springboard project and part of a four phase programme of work. The Board are very excited to get this initial project off the ground as the station building will form the first element to be completed, bringing the much loved Railway (or at least the first part of it) back into operation for the benefit of the community.

In achieving the refurbishment of this first flagship element, AVCR will be able to generate income for the first time since 2017. This income will then form the foundation to regenerate the three remaining elements of the Railway – the Engine Shed, the Turntable and of course the Track. Our merry band of volunteers are eager and willing to get started on the general maintenance and this award will allow them to do so, thus engendering the spirit of community working together and taking pride in an exciting historical attraction available for everyone to enjoy.

The National Lottery Community Fund, Scotland Chair, Kate Still, said: “National Lottery funding can make amazing things happen in local communities across the country. This project delivered by Alford Valley Community Railway Ltd, is a great example of community activity in action, showing just what can be achieved when people come together for a common cause or to help others. National Lottery players can be proud to know that the money they raise is helping to support this vital work and to help communities thrive.”
